SOBOSSEK, Stan. 2 O/Cs Green Roof in Landscape and Red Barn in landscape. Each signed lower right. Stanley Sobossek, American/New York, 1918 - 1996, exhibited in annual Washington Square Park art shows in the 1950's and 1960's. Painted scenes of the Village, New Hope PA, New Orleans and the South, and Gloucester MA. Sobossek lived at 309 Sixth Ave in Greenwich Village in the 50's and c.1965, bought a building at 35 Cooper Square used as his studio and gallery as well as a bar, theatre, and music venue. Sizes: 24 x 36 and 15 x 18. The Smithsonian's Archives of American Art has files on the artist. Condition: needs cleaning of heavy cigarette smoke residue, otherwise good. Provenance: friend of the artist.
