English School c.1890 oil on canvas
English School c.1890 oil on canvas Portrait of a gentleman standing holding a compass case with London Bridge in the distance 82 x 51in unmounted. Estimate ?250-350 Oil on canvas that has been relined probably 30 - 40 years ago thus preserving the strength of the original canvas canvas that has been mounted in the past but was discovered rolled up in a retired antique dealers flat now with fair amount of lost paint down each side and scattered small missing flakes of paint throughout the works as can be clearly seen in the photograph a few 2 inch long lost lines of paint which are not however torn through the canvas canvas itself is basically in tact no sign of any signature and no knowledge as to the identity of the sitter however there is fair degree of quality in the work. Craquelure in the main seems stable and is quite possible that this could be restretched without having to relined it although professional restorers advice is recommended otherwise a little dirty but should clean to good effect. Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports. The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear imperfections or the effects of aging. Interested bidders are strongly encouraged to request a condition report on any lots upon which they intend to bid prior to placing a bid.
